10 Reasons why a Holiday Cottage is better than a Hotel

Written by Flagship Holiday Homes Team on

It’s a lovely decision to make, a luxury holiday cottage in Snowdonia or a hotel - here’s some of our thoughts to help you decide:

1. Great Value

Great value may not be the first thing that comes to mind when considering a cottage holiday, but when deciding where to stay you may be surprised to find that even the most luxurious holiday cottages such as ours offer better value than a similar hotel.

2. Outdoor Adventures

Holiday cottages are often located near some of the most stunning scenery with walks and paths on the doorstep - the view from the front door and beyond the window view can be miles upon miles of woodland, lakes and hilltops to explore, just a stones-throw from the garden gate.

3. Closer to the Community

What better way to enjoy and experience the local community - feel like one of the locals as you enjoy the wide range of food, drink, markets and farm shops on offer.

4. Self-Catering

Eat what you want and when you want. No expensive mini-bars and breakfast at a designated hour - a self catering cottage allows you to relish the best local produce in the comfort of your own home so you and your family can enjoy family breakfasts, lunches and dinners can at your leisure; putting you in control of your holiday!

5. Bring Your Pets

Many holiday cottages are pet friendly and welcome dogs as part of the family - so you don’t have to leave your dog at home as you explore the great countryside.

6. Men (and Women) in Lycra

Bring the bikes - many cottages have secure bike storage and are perfectly located for exploring North Wales and cycle centres such and Coed y Brenin and the Mawddach Trail.

7. Heating vs Air Con

We have all experienced the frustration of a hotel with a noisy, blowy, too hot / too cold air conditioning and windows which don’t open. So opt for a holiday cottage which is much more flexible and even has a wood burner or log stove. Too warm -  step into your own private garden or fling open the window.

8. Invite the Whole Family

As a holiday cottage offers such great value, and lots of space, invite the whole family and spend less than you would in many hotels. 3 and 4 bedroom holiday cottages give you the space to get family get togethers, lots of our cottages have 3, or even 4 generations together.

9. A Home Away From Home

Holiday cottages have the conveniences you find at home and usually include fully equipped kitchens, books and games. Wifi (no extra charge) and laundry facilities. These kinds of amenities can make your stay so much more comfortable - especially if you’re travelling with the family or for an extended period of time.

10. Happy Children = Happy Parents

Many hotels just aren’t set up for active families. With the expense of eating out and having to book two (or more) rooms to accommodate everyone, often with someone scrunched onto a sofa-bed, you can blow most of your budget before you get started. So give them the room to spread out and relax in a holiday cottage which has enough beds, bathrooms and televisions to keep everyone happy.
